In 1896, Joseph Theurer, owner of the Schoenhofen Brewing Company, commissioned the construction of his home in Lincoln Park.  The nine bedroom mansion was a sight to be seen at the turn of the century.  And, today, it continues to awe.  The home was purchased by William Wrigley in 1911 and has been privately owned throughout its 121 year history and has never been open to the public.  Until now.

You are cordially invited to join us for an afternoon of history, architecture, and beer at the Theurer-Wrigley Mansion.

Welcomed by Joseph Theurer (Paul Durica), guests will have time to mingle in the first floor great rooms while enjoying Upland Brewing’s Champagne Velvet, a lager based on a recipe from 1902.  The Theurer Family staff will then escort you to the third floor grand ballroom where you’ll enjoy a light snack and Urban Chestnut Brewing’s Stammtisch, an award winning German pilsner.  Russell Lewis, Executive Vice-President and Chief Historian at the Chicago History Museum will provide an overview of late 1890s Chicago.  Beer historian, Liz Garibay will share insight into the life of Joseph Theurer and history of the Schoenhofen Brewing Company.  After the brief discussion, guests will enjoy a guided tour of the home and will then be bidden adieu by Joseph Theurer.  A post-event gathering takes place just one block away at The Galway Arms, a tavern housed in another historic 19th Century home.
