African people and traditions have long shaped and contributed to American history and culture. And while our nation’s culinary history has been so greatly influenced by the myriad of African customs, we have seen very little of it impact craft brewing in the United States.

We invite you to virtually gather with us for a discussion about how three modern American craft breweries are tapping into African history and heritage to influence the way they approach beer making while also making change in beer.

Joining us for the conversation are:

Denise Ford-Sawadago, Montclair Brewery, Montclair, NJ

Leo Sawadago, Montclair Brewery, Montclair, NJ

Kofi Meroe, Sankofa Beer Company, Washington, D.C.

Jamhal Johnson, Moors Brewing Company, Chicago, IL

Moderated by Toni Boyce, BlaQ & Soul

This free virtual event takes place via Zoom at 6pm Central Standard Time.

This event is presented in collaboration with BeoirFest as part of their African Traditional + Craft Brewing Weekend happening March 19 - 21.
